Bob Johnson for Congress - Let's Try FREEDOM!

Sam says he wishes Bush were President during Hanoi Hilton Days instead of NIXON? Even though getting us out of 'Nam and ending the draft is the only thing Nixon did right?

Boy, our Congressman had a REALLY different take on the President's State of the Union message than lots of Conservative Republicans I know. Conservatives Will, Noonan, and Novak all panned the President's speech, and some pundits claimed it was the worst of his five. But Sam REALLY went over the top to be sycophantic towards Bush. He says of Bush, "I wish we had this kind of stead and strong leadership while I was a prisoner of war in Vietnam." Good GRIEF, Sam, Nixon got you OUT of Vietnam due to the fact that he had a TIMETABLE for getting troops out of a war he didn't start. Bush gets us INTO a war HE HIMSELF CREATED and yet doesn't have a timetable to withdraw, even though in his own words we had 'mission accomplished' on May 1, 2003. Nice to see your gratitude to Nixon showing, Sam. On Friday, February 3rd, 2006, the Plano Star Courier published this version of my response to Sam Johnson's fulsome praise of Bush and implicit slam of Nixon. Here is my fuller response to Sam Johnson's praise of the Bush State of the Union Address and as you'll see, Sam seems to be a marionette of Bush, almost as if he does it because he HAS to do so (e.g., to get deals out of DeLay), not because he WANTS to do so. Sad that such a once-proud man would lower himself this way. It's pretty obvious that Sam couldn't really 'believe' in what he said, but is doing it to kiss Bush's ring so as to get future favors in Congress or maybe on the campaign trail or whatever. Why anyone would want to deal with Congress instead of enjoying his grandchildren I'm not sure, especially at the cost of such self-degradation and backhand-insulting the very guy who liberated him from the Reds. As I've said before, I love Sam Johnson and respect his military record, but no longer his Congressional Record or his 'on the record' nutty statements, so I just don't want him in Congress anymore.
