Bob Johnson for Congress - Let's Try FREEDOM!

Why Murtha is Right - We're Now Making Things Worse By Remaining: WHY THINGS WILL IMPROVE IN IRAQ AND AT THE GAS PUMP IF WE’LL LEAVE IN SIX MONTHS A LA MURTHA

1. You’ll recall that Vietnam Marine combat Veteran, two Purple Heart winner Cong. John Murtha in mid-November announced that he felt we’d done all we could do for Iraq and should leave in six months. Almost immediately afterwards, you’ll recall that George Bush announced that he had a plan for withdrawing from Iraq. AFTER Murtha’s switch to being against our continued presence in Iraq, but BEFORE Bush’s plan actually materialized, you’ll recall that GASOLINE PRICES PLUMMETTED SIXTY CENTS from $2.49 to $1.89!!!

2. “But, gee” says a typical ‘stay-the-course’ type, “I’D have thought that pulling out was a STUPID idea that would make the number of insurgents INCREASE, and that would make the fighting WORSE and thus oil and gas prices would RISE!!! WHY did they come DOWN SIXTY CENTS??”

3. “Well,” says Bob Johnson, “if your theory was right, it probably would have gone the OTHER way. But it DIDN’T, so we can be PRETTY SURE that your theory was WRONG! The REASON it’s wrong is that our presence is actually making things WORSE for two reasons: a. we were losing only about one soldier a day for the first year, but after we’d overstayed our welcome, it suddenly went up to 2.315, because instead of merely having insurgents that wanted to overthrow the government, we now had insurgents who simply wanted us OUT, and rather than the fighting getting worse or better since then, it’s really been stable – 848 dead in 2004, 845 dead in 2005, so as of about two years ago, we’ve become the biggest inadvertent recruiter for the insurgency; b. the dominant Shi’a political party which controls the government is even telling us that we’re holding them back, rather the way we micromanaged the South Vietnamese, so that if we’ll get out, not only will most of the insurgents who hate the US instead of the Iraqi government declare ‘mission accomplished’ go home to their neighborhoods, but the few remaining Baathist fanatics can be more ruthlessly crushed by the Iraqi government, old-school Iraqi style, with no US ‘Marquis of Queensbury’ rules on how to fight the war.”

4. “So,” says our ‘stay the course’ type, “what happened when Bush’s plan was published? Why didn’t prices stay at $1.89? And why aren’t they all the way back up to $2.49 like before Katrina?”

5. “Well,” says Bob Johnson, “that’s FURTHER proof that our staying is making things worse. You see, people were beginning to think that Bush REALLY had a plan. However, when his ‘plan’ turned out to be about 38 pages of NO DEADLINES OR TIMETABLES, then the market was disappointed and started going back up, first to $2.09, then $2.19, then $2.25, and now back to more like $2.15. If we could just get Sam Johnson to double team up with Murtha, we’d have the problem solved.”

6. “I think I see your point. So why DOESN’T Sam Johnson get this?” 7. Looking down sadly, and with disappointed, Bob Johnson said, “I don’t know. You’ll have to ask HIM.”
